What Does the Bible Say About Trusting God During Hard Seasons?
Have you ever had a hard time trusting God? Have you ever asked God, “Why??”
Why did you let that happen? Why did I lose that friend or job? Why is marriage and family life so hard? Why isn’t my life going according to plan?
Me too. Me. too.
Three weeks after I was engaged, I was T-boned by a Mack truck. The right side of my face was partially paralyzed, I lost the hearing in one ear, and had a serious stroke that forever impaired the use of my dominant hand.
Instead of happily planning our wedding, I was fighting for my life.
Instead of dress shopping, I was attached to countless tubes, unapproved to eat or walk or use the flipping bathroom by myself at the age of 22.
Your hard season is different of course – maybe you lost a child or parent, are without work, or feel so completely and utterly alone – but the question, the doubt and fear and mistrust, remain the same.
Why, God? Just why?

What does the Bible say about trusting God during hard seasons?
I remember struggling to find these as I recovered in a pre-smart phone era. I journaled my angered prayer with my scribbly handwriting, looked at my Bible’s index to find answers, and was left with very few answers.
I was frustrated. I felt alone. I had a hard time trusting God would ever use my suffering for good.
If you’re there right now, more than anything else in the world I want you to know that you’re not alone.
I want you to know even the strongest figures in Scripture – Thomas, Moses, Sarah and Abraham – that God used in absolutely miraculous ways had a hard time trusting God.
More than anything, 12 years ago, I wish someone had spoken truth into my doubts. I wish they had shown me God was right there beside me as I walked through my hardest season and I want to do the same for you.
I’ve compiled a free list of five Bible verses and reflections I wish I’d heard at my hardest spot. I’m so excited to share these with you. Print them. Share them with your kids. Share it with anyone struggling to keep their faith.

Finding God, trusting God, at your hardest season is possible. Don’t ever forget that. <3
Oh yes! I have asked Jesus why so many times. When we ask God why He never holds it against us. He always, always, comforts me. Then I feel so much better and my why is are no longer something I want to know about any longer.
Amen! He wants us to bring our doubts to Him! Jacob straight up wrestled with Him and came out changed.
Exactly. I loved that story about Jacob.
